Outdoor Furniture Rotomolding Powder

Rotational molding is a manufacturing process of thermoplastic materials that allows the production of hollow bodies of all shapes and sizes. This is a different technology than traditional injection molding or blow molding processes and is particularly well suited for the production of low-volume products, geometrically complex products, especially large hollow products that cannot be produced otherwise.

This process was commonly used for vessels, taking advantage of the fact that hollow bodies could be made without subsequent welding or assembly. Applications have doubled thanks to the continuous evolution of research on the polymers used in the process.

Polyethylene, (LLDPE, LDPE, LHDPE, HDPE), reticulated polyethylene (XLPE), polypropylene, E.V.A., nylon, polycarbonate, PVC, etc.

What We Promise with Outdoor Furniture Rotomolding Powders?

Specifically, we offer our customers LLDPE rotomolded polyethylene in powder and pellet form in natural and a variety of colors. We are a high-standard manufacturer of rotomolded powdered polyethylene and powdered plastics.

Our high-quality powders offer precise custom colors at competitive prices and short lead times. We take pride in our industry-leading color management efforts. Our entire process is controlled in-house, giving us complete control over the color of every material we produce. Our colorists have successfully developed over 700+ custom colors for our rotomolding customers. In addition to creating custom colors, we also offer a standard range of 19+ rotomolding powders, including Millstone, Sandstone, White Marble, and Green Marble speckle effects.

Rotomolding Materials We Use

The rotational molding requires grinding the material to a fine powder, typically around 35 mesh. Although some improvements have been discovered, such as the ability to form micropellets (smaller versions of the pelleted material), rotational molding in the engineering resins field is still limited. Other materials that can be used for rotomolding include polypropylene, nylon, PVC, vinyl, polycarbonate, and less processed materials. Due to powder or micropellet requirements, many of these materials are difficult to process due to processing requirements such as Cryogenic grinding for grinding expensive powdered materials.

  • Polyethylene

To understand polyethylene for rotomolding, it is essential to understand thermoplastic materials. Thermoplastics, or thermosoftens, are plastic materials that become soft, pliable, and malleable when the material is heated above a certain temperature. The material also hardens and solidifies as it cools. The polymer chains in thermoplastic materials weaken rapidly when exposed to high temperatures, transforming the material into a highly viscous liquid. Thermoplastics are more flexible than thermoset polymers, thermoplastics can be reshaped by heating and are used in many plastic processes such as rotational molding, injection molding, and even compression molding. Thermosetting polymers work in a completely different way, forming irreversible chemical bonds during the curing process.

  • Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

Linear low-density polyethylene exhibits physical properties of good durability and moderate stiffness. LLDPE material is very durable but more forgiving and easier to rotomold. Using certified virgin LLDPE material provides excellent resistance to chemical and environmental stress cracks. LLDPE must be ground into a powder or micropellets for efficient processing during rotomolding.

  • EVA Copolymer (EVA)

Ethylene-vinyl acetate is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The polymer consists of vinyl acetate ranging from 10% to 40%, with the remainder of the polymer composition being ethylene. Because this material is soft and flexible, it performs similarly to elastomeric materials but is processed like PE-based materials.

  • Other rotomolding materials

    • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
    • Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE)
    • Nylon
    • Polycarbonate (PC)
    • Polypropylene (PP)
