Underground Tank Rotomolding Powder

The water tank powder then undergoes extensive testing of dry flow, particle size distribution, and bulk thickness. Once each of these tests is performed, they are rotomolded in small molds at various PIATs. This example is taken from these solid molds for additional mechanical testing (flexural strength, tensile strength, elongation, low-temperature ARM impact strength, etc.). After passing all internal test limits, the cluster is verified and marked as approved for packaging and shipping.

All unrefined raw materials are refined through quality checks before entering final compounded production batches as required. After compounding, we test the consistency and thickness of the rubber to ensure it is good for rotomolding. At this point, they are fluffed with hand-made parts/edgings to ensure the shape and size of the powder.

Our recycled compounds are designed and manufactured with the requirements of rotomolding processes requiring excellent thermal stability. All of our grades can be rotomolded at the same temperature profiles used when rotomolding our Prime grades. Some of the special properties of our compounds are listed below.

Features of Rotomolding Powder for Underground Tanks

The thought of rotational molding is quite simple.

  • Thermal stability

Exposure of polymers to thermal stress can induce oxidation, which can lead to undesirable effects such as discoloration, deterioration of mechanical properties, and changes in melt viscosity. Ensure that all compounds are thermally stable by dosing them with antioxidants. It uses a blend of primary and secondary antioxidants made up of hindered phenols and phosphites. This preserves the mechanical properties of the compound.

  • Excellent cycle/oven time

We ensured that raw material compositions were carefully selected and blended to be processed and molded at the exact same temperature settings used in primary compound rotomolding. Not only the powder but also the raw material undergoes strict quality inspection before further processing.

  • The tank is rust-resistant and does not corrode

Some types of water tanks are susceptible to bottom erosion, while polyethylene can and will never rust. It has a big advantage over the built-in water tank. Rotomolded tanks also mean you can save money on future repairs and replacements.

Underground Tank Rotomolding process overview

Simply put, rotational molding is the process of creating durable plastic products. Raw polyethylene powder is “cooked” at low speed in a hollow mold that rotates around two axes.

During the turnover period, the polyethylene feed undergoes a heating phase that typically lasts from 45 minutes to 1 hour. This turns the powder into a plastic that sticks to the walls of the tank.

Once a water tank is formed, it will have a cooldown period before being removed. The final product is a hollow, nearly seamless water tank with uniform wall thickness throughout.

Advantages of using rotomolded powder in water baths

  • Low manufacturing cost

Rotational molding has relatively low tooling costs compared to injection molding and blows molding. Also, because the manufacturing process is simple, the manufacturing lead time is greatly reduced compared to other methods.

  • Armor Strength

Polyethylene is lightweight, but it is also very durable. Because the material can bend, its structural integrity can be maintained longer than concrete or fiberglass tanks. In addition, the tank has no weak points because it is an integral structure.

  • Design flexibility

Polyethylene is one of the most processable thermoplastics in the world. As a direct result of this, custom water tanks are easy to build. Whatever your design needs, we are confident that we can create the perfect custom solution. All this means a low initial cost to create a roto-molded water tank.
